Students test 4 basic indicators of water quality ; sampling for dissolved oxygen ( DO ) , acidity (pH) , temperature and turbidity (clarity) are important , yet basic indicators of the water quality.
The monitoring activities help students to gain first-hand experience in assessing the health of their local watershed in which they live, how watersheds work and how to protect their waters which have downstream impact. The students use their date to discuss impacts in their local watershed and compare their findings. This is a great way to learn on how monitoring helps to protect our waters.
Our River Ranger Programme has managed to grab the media’s attention where they have covered numerous practical training sessions that were carried out with schools and communities. It highlights the fact that the programme is seen as an import education tool for people to learn about river conservation.
